On July 17, 2019, a Mombasa court released taxi driver Fredrick Mungai, who was accused of defiling a 13-year-old boy in his car on the way from school.

According to the prosecution, the alleged indecent act was committed within Bombolulu area in Nyali, where the suspect was arrested after the boy's family made a formal complaint at Nyali Police Station.

However, the suspect's family disputes the allegations, insisting that he was framed.

The prosecution had prepared a defective charge sheet, which led to the suspect not taking a plea. The magistrate, Yusuf Shikanda, ordered the prosecution to prepare an appropriate charge.

The suspect was freed on a Sh100,000 bail and ordered to plead on July 23.
