On July 17, 2019, HMD Global launched its latest budget smartphone, the Nokia 2.2, in Kenya, marking its entry into the country's competitive low-cost smartphone market.

The Nokia 2.2 boasts a familiar design, including a notch on the front HD+ panel, a removable battery, and a dedicated button for summoning the Google Assistant.

Other notable features include a 5.7-inch 720p LCD panel, a Helio A22 chipset from MediaTek, a 13-megapixel camera on the back, and a 5-megapixel shooter on the front.

The device is available in two storage configurations: 16GB with 2GB of memory and 32GB with 3GB of memory, both of which are expandable.

With a recommended retail price of Kshs 10,200, the Nokia 2.2 is positioned to compete with other budget smartphones in the market, including devices from Tecno, Infinix, and Huawei.

As the smartphone market in Kenya continues to evolve, it remains to be seen whether HMD Global's prompt software updates and commitment to near-stock Android experience will be enough to lure customers to the Nokia brand.
