Kenyan football has a lot to learn from its Ethiopian counterparts, according to former Gor-Mahia midfielder Humphrey Mieno.
Speaking in a recent Ghetto Radio Offside show, Mieno praised the passion and dedication of Ethiopian fans, who consistently fill stadiums in large numbers, even in lower leagues.
"The Ethiopians are very passionate about their local teams and they flock the stadium in large numbers, you will find in the local league more than 20,000 fans attending unlike in the Kenya league where the stadium attendance most of the time is very low," Mieno lamented.
As a player who has experienced the Kenyan Premier League firsthand, Mieno believes that increased fan attendance is crucial to making the league more competitive.
"Am currently planning a tournament for the under 12 which will be played at the Ziwani Umeme Grounds in a bid to groom and set up the right stage for the young children interested in football with such platforms few or non-existent at all," he said.
Mieno, who recently terminated his contract with Ethiopian giants Saint George SC, is currently preparing for a tournament during the school holidays to give young people a platform to showcase their talent.
