On July 17, 2019, Citizen TV journalist Waihiga Mwaura testified in a Nairobi court over the 2016 Olympics scandal.

He denied receiving money from the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) to facilitate his stay in Brazil during the 2016 Olympics.

According to Mwaura, he was not even aware of being listed to receive $1,000 (KSh 103,000) from NOCK.

He stated that his accommodation was catered for by his employer and that he never received any facilitation from NOCK or any government agency.

He also mentioned that he carried a story on the scandal on Citizen TV upon his return from Rio, dubbed 'Rio Fiasco'.

Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario and other officials are accused of embezzling KSh 55 million.
