On July 17, 2019, Betpawa, a betting company, suffered a setback in its bid to have a government decision that cancelled its license lifted. The High Court, presided over by Judge Weldon Korir, ruled that the court would not issue interim orders without hearing all parties involved.
According to court documents, Betpawa argued that no prejudice would be suffered by the Betting and Gaming Control Board if they were issued operational licenses while they waited to argue the main case. Betpawa claimed that it was a legitimate business in Kenya, having been given a license by the government prior to its expiry, and that business had been affected by the government's decision.
However, the Board opposed the application, stating that it would not be fair to issue orders without allowing them to file their responses. The Board requested three days to put in their papers, which the court granted.
Judge Korir ruled that the matter would be heard on July 26, 2019, and that all parties should file and serve their responses before then.
