On July 17, 2019, Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda spoke out against a proposal to abolish the Women Representative seats in the Kenyan Parliament.

Lesuuda argued that the position was created to give women an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills and that it has a sunset period of 20 years, with only ten years having passed.

She made her comments during an event at Ang'ata Rongai village, where she had launched a health centre.

The new health centre was seen as a relief to the residents, who had previously had to travel long distances to access medical services.

Resident Dorcas Lekamario recalled the difficulties faced by women in labour, who would often risk their lives and those of their babies due to the long wait for an ambulance to arrive.

Lesuuda's comments came as the residents of Ang'ata Rongai village asked the government to equip the new health centre with medical equipment, drugs, and qualified medical staff.
