Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued a directive to property owners within the Nairobi Central Business District to repaint, clean, and redecorate their buildings within two weeks.

The directive aims to improve the aesthetics and beauty of the city, making it more attractive to investors and sustaining its status as the commercial hub of East and Central Africa.

According to the directive, the Central Business District covers properties within Uhuru Highway, Nairobi River, and Ring Road Pumwani and Haile Salassie Avenue.

Nairobi City Council has also given blanket approval to property owners to improve plot frontages, which is the area between the plot boundary and the road kerb.

Property owners have been given 14 days to comply with the directive, after which necessary legal measures will be instituted to ensure compliance.

It's worth noting that Nairobi was ranked 10th among the top 20 African cities in terms of economic activity, consumer size, and connectivity in 2017, according to the Fraym Urban Markets Index.

The ranking ranked the continent's 169 largest urban clusters, with Cairo, Johannesburg, and Luanda topping the list.
