Sudan Participates in Peace and Security Meetings in Nairobi

On Tuesday, Nairobi hosted the 24th session of the committee for technical aid to peace and security framework in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Great Lakes Region, with the UN Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region, the special envoy for the African Union, and representatives of the member states in attendance.

Sudan's representative to Kenya, Gariballa Khidir, gave a comprehensive review of the current political developments in Sudan, highlighting the efforts of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) in the political, economic, and social spheres.

He discussed the outcome of the negotiation session between the TMC and the Forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change, which resulted in an agreement on the features and structures of the transitional period.

Ambassador Khidir also acknowledged the important role being played by the African Union and Ethiopia in facilitating consensus on the transitional period, expressing Sudan's appreciation for the support of its brothers and friends in promoting security, stability, and development.

He reaffirmed Sudan's commitment to the issues of the Great Lakes region and its role in serving the causes of peace and security.

Representatives of the UN Secretary General and the African Union expressed confidence in their speeches at the meeting, citing the ability of Sudanese parties to achieve consensus and form a transitional government.

They emphasized the crucial role of Sudan in boosting and securing peace in the Republic of South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and the Great Lakes region as a whole.
