On March 10, 2019, Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, killing all 346 passengers on board. Among the victims were a Kenyan family of five, including a mother, father, and three children.
Paul Njoroge, the father, will today testify before the US Congress, sharing his story and calling for accountability from Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
According to USA Today, Mr. Njoroge said that Boeing should have grounded the 737 Max planes after a previous deadly crash off the Indonesian coast in October 2018. Instead, they continued to allow the planes to fly, putting hundreds of lives at risk.
“Today, I would be enjoying summer with my family, I would be playing football with my son,” Mr. Njoroge said in an interview with US media.
Mr. Njoroge's family was returning from Canada when the plane crashed. His wife, Carol, and their three children, Ryan, Kelli, and Rubi, as well as his mother-in-law, Anne Wangui Karanja, were among the victims.
A Chicago aviation lawyer, Robert Clifford, is suing Boeing on Mr. Njoroge's behalf over the deaths of his family members.
