Published on July 17, 2019, Tyler Okari, a player for Kenya's national basketball team, has been named the StarTimes Sports Personality of the month of June for his outstanding performance in the Zone Five African Games qualifiers.
Okari's team, Kenya Morans, made history by winning the competition held in Kampala, Uganda, at the end of last month. He was instrumental in their victory and was voted the competition's Most Valuable Player.
As a result of his achievement, Okari received a StarTimes 43-inch digital television set and Kshs100,000 prize money. He expressed his gratitude to the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya and StarTimes for recognizing his efforts.
Okari edged out other notable Kenyan athletes, including Kenya Sevens player Andrew Amonde and volleyball pair Gaudencia Makokha and Naomie Too, who also received recognition for their achievements.
With this award, Okari becomes the 24th recipient of the StarTimes Sports Personality of the Month award, joining notable winners such as World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge and World 5000 champion Helen Obiri.
