Published on July 17, 2019, a video of Githeri Man, real name Martin Kamotho, being carried on a trolley in town sparked widespread speculation about his sobriety.

However, in an interview on K24, Kamotho clarified that he was not drunk at the time, but rather playing a character for entertainment purposes.

"I did not do anything wrong. If anything, it was me who asked to be put on a trolley. I am a comedian, and I wanted to entertain my people by pretending that I am a wealthy man being 'chauffeured around'", he said.

Although Kamotho denied being drunk, he did admit to having a drinking problem in the past, particularly after some business owners failed to fulfill their financial promises to him.
