Published on July 17, 2019, Kamukunji residents are up in arms over the listing of outsiders in the ongoing census recruitment process.
Over 4,000 qualified residents of Kamukunji applied for various positions, but only 700 were shortlisted, with less than one percent residing within the sub-county.
Residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the shortlisting process, accusing Kamukunji Sub-county ACCI, Gloria, and the chiefs of deliberately marginalizing them to reward themselves and their close allies.
Residents demand the ACCI to resign or transfer and their MP, Hon. Yusuf, to address the matter. They threatened to mobilize community members to the office of their Member of Parliament, Internal CS, and Director General KNBS if redress is not done.
”How sure are we that these outsiders camouflaged as enumerators will not turn out to be thugs who will share our information and come back to attack us when the dust settles,” said Jacqueline Karambu, a resident.
John Garang’, another resident, threatened to frustrate the census exercise if the issues raised are not looked into.
