Published on July 16, 2019, Kisumu County government is undertaking renovations that include removing hawkers from the city's main streets.
According to Governor Anyang Nyong'o, the county is working to provide alternative market spaces for the numerous traders who currently sell their wares on the streets.
The governor cited pavements meant for walkways being turned into trading centers by hawkers as one of the reasons for this action.
As part of the renovations, Kisumu Urban Projects is working on the expansion and refurbishment of Jubilee, Kibuye, and Otonglo markets.
Once these markets are ready, the traders will have more space away from streets where they inconvenience the public, Governor Nyong'o stated.
