On July 16, 2019, KenolKobil found itself in a dispute with its landlord, Canarian Holdings Ltd, over the oil marketer's takeover by Rubis Energie SAS.

According to court documents, the takeover led to a change in control of KenolKobil without the required written consent from the landlord, which is a breach of the land lease agreement.

Canarian Holdings Ltd argues that the oil marketer agreed to re-enter the premises without notice should possession of the premises change without a written consent.

KenolKobil is seeking a permanent injunction to restrain the landlord from evicting it from two parcels of land in Kilifi and Mombasa counties.

The dispute has been fixed for hearing on October 15, 2019.
