Ferdinand Omanyala, the new African record holder in the 100m dash, has intensified his training in preparation for two international competitions in Italy and the Czech Republic before the African Championships in Mauritius.
According to Taifa Leo, Omanyala will participate in the Castiglione della Pescaia international meet in Italy on May 22 and the Ostrava Golden Spike in the Czech Republic on May 31.
"This season is packed with competitions, so there's little time to rest. I've been pushing myself hard in training," Omanyala said in an interview with Taifa Leo.
Notably, Omanyala's impressive performance at the Kip Keino Classic earned him a spot at the top of the podium, beating thousands of spectators, including President Uhuru Kenyatta. He clocked a remarkable 9.85 seconds, outpacing American Fred Kerley (9.92 seconds) and Isiah Young (10.13 seconds) who took second and third place, respectively.
It's worth noting that Kerley had previously beaten Omanyala twice at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, taking home the silver medal.
Omanyala, 26, also had the opportunity to meet with Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs, who was recovering from a stomach issue at the Ruaraka Uhai Neema hospital in Nairobi. Omanyala had visited Jacobs in the hospital on Sunday.
The African Championships are scheduled to take place from June 8-12.
