Former Harambee Stars Coach Paul Put Sacked by Guinea Over Poor AFCON Run

Guinea Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT) has terminated the contract of former Harambee Stars coach Paul Put due to the team's poor performance in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Put was appointed as the coach of Harambee Stars in November 2017 and led the team to win the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup 2017 held in Kenya.

However, three months after the tournament, he submitted his resignation letter to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and was later appointed as the coach of the Guinea national team.

According to a statement by FEGUIFOOT president Antonio Souaré, the federation has terminated Put's contract due to the team's poor performance in the AFCON tournament.

"FEGUIFOOT has terminated the contract of Paul Put due to the team's poor performance in the AFCON 2019 tournament," Souaré said.

Put's sacking comes after Guinea was eliminated from the tournament in the round of 16 after losing 3-0 to Algeria in Cairo, Egypt.

Put is now among the coaches who have been sacked after their teams failed to perform well in the tournament.
