On July 19, 2019, Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King will hit theaters, accompanied by a new album from Beyoncé titled The Lion King: The Gift.
The 14-track project boasts an impressive lineup of artists, including six Nigerians: Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Tekno, and Yemi Alade.
Other notable collaborations include Busiswa and Moonchild Sanelly from South Africa, Ghana's Shatta Wale, and American artists JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, and Pharrell.
Wizkid, who celebrates his birthday on July 16, 2019, features alongside Beyoncé's daughter Blue Ivy Carter and Saint Jhn on the song 'Brown Skin Girl.'
According to Beyoncé, this project is a love letter to Africa, and she aimed to create authentic African music by collaborating with talented artists from the continent.
"The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa. I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa. Not just use some of the sounds and do my interpretation of it. I wanted it to be authentic about what is beautiful about the music in Africa," she explained in an interview with ABC.
