On July 16, 2019, a Homa Bay High Court judge, Justice Joseph Karanja, released two administration police officers, Fredrick Kimanzi and Lawi Gitari, and a driver, Alex Onyango Arot, on a bond of Ksh.500,000 each with one surety.

The three were charged with the murder of Abdinasir Ahmed, which allegedly occurred on April 27 and 28, 2019, at a restaurant in Ndhiwa Town.

They were deployed as security guards at the deputy governor's home in Ndhiwa constituency.

The case will be heard on November 4, 2019.

The three denied the charges before the court.
