On July 16, 2019, Tanzanian President John Magufuli commissioned 20 housing units for police officers in Geita region, northwestern Tanzania.

During the event, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Simon Sirro revealed that between January and June 2019, at least 54 police officers were demoted due to lack of discipline.

Additionally, 157 police officers received warnings during the same period, with some implicated in wrongfully accusing people of crimes, conspiring with criminals, and causing problems for civilians.

President Magufuli directed the IGP to continue taking disciplinary measures against officers who acted against the police force's ethics.

"Keep on being strict on the observation of discipline in the police force," Magufuli told Sirro.
