May 8, 2022 - Marsabit, Kenya - The government has identified the root cause of the insecurity in Marsabit as the widespread availability of illegal firearms.
Eastern Regional Commissioner Evans Achoki has assured residents that the government is taking stern action against criminals, with a focus on mopping up illicit weapons.
Achoki, who chaired a security meeting to assess the progress of the curfew and the ongoing operation, said that enough security personnel have been deployed to deal with the situation.
He also revealed that arrangements have been made with neighboring countries to prevent criminal elements from seeking refuge there.
Calling for cooperation from the public, Achoki emphasized that the government would conduct the security operation, dubbed 'Operation Rejesha Amani Marsabit', professionally and humanly.
