On May 7, 2022, Kenya's sprinting sensation, Ferdinand Omanyala, made history by winning the Kip Keino Classic 100m race in 9.85 seconds at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.
As the crowd watched, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb Amina Mohammed, Omanyala defeated seven other competitors, including Americans Fred Kerley and Isaiah Young.
Notably, Kerley, an Olympic silver medallist, finished in second place in 9.92 seconds.
Before the race began, all eight athletes were yellow carded for a false start.
As Omanyala crossed the finish line, the entire crowd stood to congratulate him, with Kenyans waving the flag and applauding the fastest man in Africa.
Uhuru, Raila, and Kipchoge Keino hugged Omanyala and praised him for bringing honor to the country.
With this impressive win, the spotlight now shifts to the Doha Diamond League, which begins on May 13.
