Bongo Movie Actress Irene Uwoya Forced to Apologize

On July 16, 2019, Bongo Movie actress Irene Uwoya faced backlash from media owners and journalists in Tanzania after throwing money at them during a press conference.

According to videos shared on social media, the actress threw money at journalists, causing some cameras to be damaged.

In a statement, Irene Uwoya apologized for her actions, stating that she had intended to show appreciation to the journalists in a unique way.

She also apologized to those who were affected by her actions, saying, "Ndugu zangu waandishi wa habari, leo katika press conference ya Swahili Inflix na ndugu zetu waandishi wa habari niliamua kutoa fedha kwa style ya kutunza."

She added, "Baadhi yenu mmekwazika kwa kitendo hicho nawaomba radhi sana sikuwa na nia mbaya juu yenu, binafsi nawapenda waandishi wa habari kwani nyie ni watu muhimu sana katika jamii."

Uwoya's actions are not the first time she has been in hot water. In July 2018, she and Hamisa Mobetto were forced to issue a public apology over sharing indecent photos on social media.
