As of 2018, Willy Paul's brother Erick-Cornel Opondo was struggling to make ends meet, having been evicted from his home in Mathare North due to unpaid rent of Sh1, 500.

According to Erick-Cornel, he had called his brother Willy Paul on several occasions for help, but was met with excuses that he was in a meeting and would get back to him later.

Despite his efforts to reach out to his family for assistance, Erick-Cornel revealed that his mother had asked him to borrow money from Willy Paul, as she was broke.

With no stable income, Erick-Cornel has been forced to rely on the kindness of friends, who have been hosting him temporarily.

He expressed his desire to find a job, citing his skills in buffing and wiring cars, in order to provide for himself and become self-sufficient.
