Best Estates in Nairobi to Avoid Traffic Jams ¶
Despite the Thika Super Highway's promise to alleviate traffic congestion, the road has failed to live up to expectations, with traffic returning to its pre-construction levels.
One reason for this is the increasing number of personal cars on the road, which has risen significantly over the past decade. This trend is attributed to the growing middle class in Nairobi, who are now more likely to own cars due to readily available loans from local banks.
According to a report by Bizna Kenya, the following estates in Nairobi are ideal for those seeking to avoid traffic jams:
- Ngara Estates: Located just minutes away from the city center, Ngara Estates offer a convenient and traffic-free living experience. However, getting a house in Ngara can be challenging due to the high demand from University of Nairobi students and other residents.
- Pangani Estates: Once considered a high-risk neighborhood, Pangani Estates have undergone significant transformation and are now a respectable and affordable option for those seeking to avoid traffic jams.
- Kileleshwa: This upscale estate is considered one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Nairobi, with prices ranging from Ksh 15,000 to Ksh 55,000 per month for a bedsitter, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartment.
- Mlango Kubwa: While not for the faint-hearted, Mlango Kubwa offers affordable housing options, with single rooms available for between Ksh 3,000 and Ksh 5,000 per month. However, residents must be prepared to deal with the area's notorious reputation for prostitution and gang activity.
- Nairobi West: Located near the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi West offers a relatively traffic-free living experience, with residents able to comfortably wake up at 6:30 a.m. and arrive at work by 8 a.m.
