Boda Boda operators in Moyale Sub County, Marsabit County, took to the streets to protest against the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed by the national government.
The curfew, which was introduced by Cabinet Secretary for National Coordination and Internal Security Dr. Fred Matiang'i on May 1, 2022, aimed to address security concerns and confiscate illegal firearms in the region.
However, the Boda Boda operators argued that the curfew had negatively affected their businesses, with many incurring losses due to the early closure of their operations.
Deputy Sub-County Police Commander Walter Chebron addressed the protesters, clarifying that Moyale Sub County was part of the entire Marsabit County under the curfew and that surveillance was in place to ensure compliance.
He also assured the operators that security personnel were human and could understand emergency situations, such as sickness, and that essential services were exempt from the curfew restrictions.
