On July 16, 2019, a group of morning commuters in Embakasi narrowly escaped injury when their matatu was struck by a cargo train at the Avenue Park Estate junction.

The accident occurred at approximately 11am, leaving the KBS bus severely damaged but fortunately, no casualties were reported.

This incident is not the first of its kind at the same location, as a similar accident occurred in February when a commuter train rammed into a Citi Hoppa bus, also without any reported casualties.

Another train-related incident occurred in 2018, when a train collided with an oil tanker near Pipeline Estate in Nairobi, resulting in a major traffic congestion on Outer Ring Road and leaving one person injured.
