The government has imposed a 30-day dusk-to-dawn curfew in Marsabit County to combat rising banditry attacks.
The curfew, which will be in effect from 6 pm to 6 am, aims to allow security agencies to deal with the illegal rise of firearms in the region.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i announced the move at the General Service Unit (GSU) headquarters in Nairobi, stating that the curfew will be enforced for the next 30 days.
“With effect from 6 pm tonight, we have placed the whole of Marsabit county under curfew for 30 days. The curfew will be between 6 pm and 6 am,” Matiang'i said.
He also declared Kom Sub-location in Isiolo County as a disturbed area for the next 30 days, requiring any movement in the area to be cleared by the security sector.
CS Matiang'i called upon leaders in the region to cooperate with the government in restoring security in the affected areas, assuring a consistent supply of relief food and water during the curfew period.
