On July 16, 2019, CAF President Ahmad stated that he is prepared to defend the decision of the Executive Committee to order a replay of the second leg of the Champions League final between Tunisia's Esperance and Morocco's Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

According to Ahmad, the decision was made to ensure a fair outcome in the highly disputed match.
