On May 1, 2022, Tanzanian Bongo star Harmonize, whose real name is Rajab Abdul Kahali, was arrested in Nairobi, Kenya, following allegations that he had failed to perform at various entertainment shows despite being paid.
Harmonize had traveled to Kenya to perform at several events, including the Africa Moja Concert at the KICC, where he did perform. However, some organizers claimed that he had not fulfilled his obligations at other venues and had refused to refund the money they had paid him.
According to Mbogo Muturi, the police chief for Kilimani, Harmonize was arrested after receiving complaints from organizers who wanted their money back. 'We received complaints that he had not refunded money for shows he did not perform, and the organisers want their money back, that is why he was arrested,' Muturi explained.
Harmonize was taken into custody at the Kileleshwa Police Station and is being investigated for obtaining money by false pretense. It was reported that he had refunded Sh750,000 to two of the complainants but still owed a significant amount of money.
One of the complainants, a Nairobi-based musician Eric Omondi, accused Harmonize of physically assaulting him at the police station, claiming that he had punched him in the presence of police officers.
