Former South Africa striker Marc Batchelor was shot dead in Johannesburg on July 15, 2019, while driving his car.

Batchelor, a former player for Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, was shot several times by two gunmen on a motorbike in Olivedale, according to police.

Police spokesman Lungelo Dlamini revealed that the incident occurred at around 6pm, and Batchelor died in his vehicle.

"Yes, he was shot this evening by two men on a motorbike," Dlamini told Soccer Laduma.

"He died in his vehicle and nothing was taken. The motive is yet to be established, but we are investigating," Dlamini added.

Batchelor was a witness in the South Africa Paralympian Oscar Pistorius' murder trial, where he testified about the former Paralympian's temper.
