On July 16, 2019, gospel singer Ivlyn Mutua made headlines after announcing her switch to secular music, a move that has sparked controversy among her fans.

Some fans have accused Mutua of joining the devil's side, citing her decision to leave gospel music behind. However, Mutua has clarified that she made the switch to increase her reach to people who do not focus on Jesus.

"I am a contemporary artist who will be singing about everything and not just Jesus," Mutua said in a statement.

Despite the backlash, Mutua remains confident in her decision, stating that she is taking her time for people to understand that nothing can separate her from Jesus.

Her first song, 'Sham Sham,' aims to preach this message, and Mutua has revealed that her parents are supportive of her move.

"People did not expect that from me but I want them to grow with me," Mutua said. "Interacting with secular artists was hard and my perspective about some of them was totally different from what I got after interaction with them."
