Published on July 16, 2019, a court order issued by High Court Judge Maureen Odero on June 13 has temporarily halted the sale of Athi River's Sunset Boulevard Estate, a 222-unit gated community.

The estate, valued at approximately Sh2 billion, is facing a Sh400 million debt to I&M Bank, which has hired Leakey's Auctioneers to sell the properties.

Despite the court order, the auctioneers have proceeded to advertise the sale of 204 houses on July 31, prompting the developers to threaten legal action against I&M Bank.

The developers, Sunset Boulevard, have accused I&M Bank of contempt of court and have demanded that the bank publish an advertisement cancelling the sale.

The estate, which has one, two, and three-bedroom houses, has been plagued by internal wrangles and a failure to issue title deeds to homeowners, fuelling tension between the two parties.

Homeowners who have paid for their apartments in full are now at risk of losing their investments, with some having collectively paid Sh800 million.
