Gor Mahia, Kenya's sole representative in the ongoing Cecafa championship in Rwanda, will face a daunting task when they take on Green Eagles of Zambia in the quarter-finals on July 16, 2019.
The Kenyan side, coached by Hassan Oktay, has had an impressive run in the preliminary stage, topping Group D with maximum nine points after defeating Kikosi Maalum Cha Kuzuia Magendo (KMKM) from Zanzibar 1-0, with Eric Ombija scoring the lone goal in the 87th minute.
Having earlier beaten DR Congo's AS Maniema (2-1) and Djibouti's AS Port (2-0), Gor Mahia will need to be at their best to overcome the Zambian side, which has been one of the most impressive teams in the tournament since its kickoff on July 7, 2019.
Coach Oktay remains optimistic, however, and has stated that winning the trophy is not too much to ask for his charges, adding that there are a few areas that need to be rectified.
"We have to work on some few aspects before we play in the quarter finals. I will rectify a few mistakes and get the players ready but I'm hoping we can win the trophy as we head into the new season," said Oktay.
