On Monday, a terror attack was repulsed by police at Kiunga area in Lamu County, resulting in the deaths of three terror suspects and the wounding of two police officers.

The attackers had planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) targeting a Kenya border security patrol unit, which partially exploded, critically injuring two police officers.

According to the police, the IED was reinforced with an ambush targeting the border security unit, but the officers were able to engage the attackers and repulse the attack, killing three terror suspects.

The police have blamed the Somalia-based terror group Al-Shabaab for the attack, but have expressed confidence that the terror cells in the area lack facilities, making them unable to pose a serious security breach.

“The Somali terror group Shabaab Mujahideen has cells that continue attempts to breach the border area. The cells target security personnel with improvised explosive devices and armed ambushes. Though heavily armed, the cells activities are limited due to lack of essential supplies such as bullets and food,” the police statement read.
