Published on July 15, 2019, three terror suspects were killed and two police officers critically injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion at Kiunga in Lamu County.

The attack targeted a Border Security Patrol (BSP) unit, but the officers engaged the terrorists and thwarted the assault.

Authorities have blamed the attempted attack on the Somali terror group Shabaab Mujahideen, which has been trying to breach the border area.

According to a police report, the terror group's activities are limited due to a lack of essential supplies, including bullets and food.

Shabaab Mujahideen has been linked to recent attacks in Dhusamareb, Mudug region, and Mogadishu, where an assistant to a court president was assassinated.
