On April 23, 2022, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha announced the top 15 students who excelled in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
Among the top performers was Jeriel Ndeda Obura of Mangu High School, who scored 87.167 points, making him the best student in the exams.
He was closely followed by Mukuha Timothy Kamau of Alliance High School, who scored 87.139 points, and Job Ngara of Mangu High School, who scored 87.1 points.
The best female student was Muendo Cicily Mutheu of Kenya High School, who registered a mean score of 87.086 points.
Other top performing students included Chege David Kamau of St. Joseph Kitale, Ramadhan Musa Tepo of Light Academy, and Ian Mwai Toyota of Kakamega High School, all of whom scored 87.1 points.
Magoha noted that the 15 students were among 1,138 students who scored a mean grade of A in the exams, a significant increase from the 893 students who achieved this feat in 2020.
"There were 1,138 (0.14%) candidates who obtained an overall Grade A in the 2021 KCSE Examination compared to 893 (0.12%) candidates in 2020," Magoha stated.
