On July 15, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha launched the County Competency Based Curriculum Quality Dialogues forum at Nakuru Boys High School.

Magoha expressed his frustration over the resistance to the new education curriculum by some stakeholders in the education sector, accusing the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) of dishonesty.

KNUT, however, maintained its stance, stating that the implementation of the new education curriculum should be stopped due to the exclusion of critical components in the process.

Magoha emphasized the need for parliament to fast-track the adoption of Sessional Paper No.1 of 2019, which he claimed has landmark provisions that will drive smooth CBC rollout.

He also revealed that he held consultations with over 40 stakeholders, including Members of Parliament, on the roll out of the new curriculum.

KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion responded by stating that the ministry had excluded renowned curriculum development experts and chosen to nominate outsiders to spearhead the process.

Magoha disclosed that a total of 100,000 teachers and 1,400 education officers have so far been trained on the delivery and management of CBC in schools.

He also announced that the second batch of 100,000 teachers will be trained from the second week of August this year.
