Ms Lilian Chepchumba Keter, a Rift Valley Water Services Board official, appeared before Justice Joel Ngugi last Friday to defend herself against murder charges.

She claimed that her husband, Ronnex Kipkemoi Keter, had a history of suicidal tendencies and had indeed taken his own life on April 16, 2016, at their home in Kiamunyi, Nakuru County.

Ms Chepchumba stated that her husband's family had a history of suicides, citing the cases of his brother and grandfather.

She also claimed that her husband had attempted to kill himself several times before, including an incident where he tried to hang himself in their bedroom using an electric cable.

Ms Chepchumba's defense was met with skepticism by the prosecution, which claims that she and her co-accused, Fredrick Koech Kibet and Daniel Mwaciru Githure, could have strangled her husband to death.

The court heard that Mr Keter's father had testified that his son had complained about his wife's alleged infidelity.

The case will proceed on October 11.
