On April 20, 2022, Nairobi County Speaker Benson Mutura found himself in a precarious situation as he was arrested at his office in City Hall.

According to sources within City Hall, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided Mutura's office before handcuffing him and transferring him to the DCI offices along Kiambu Road for questioning.

It is unclear why Mutura, who briefly served as Nairobi governor following Mike Sonko's impeachment, was arrested.

Notably, Mutura has recently been associated with Deputy President William Ruto, which may have contributed to the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
