Road Accidents on the Rise in Kenya

NAIROBI, KENYA - As of July 1 this year, the number of road accidents in Kenya has reached an all-time high, with a total of 7,229 accidents reported, a 1,048 increase from the same period last year.

According to a new report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), pedestrians have been the most affected, with 620 fatalities recorded in July this year, compared to 576 in July last year.

Passengers have also been severely impacted, with 365 fatalities reported in July this year, a 40 increase from the previous year.

Motorcyclists have also seen a significant increase in serious injuries, with 576 cases reported in July this year, a 282 increase from the same period last year.

The report also highlights nine hotspots across the country, including Luanda, Kilifi, Naromoru, Makupa, Sagana, Kapenguria, Matuu, Bomet, and parts of Nairobi, which have recorded up to 24 accidents as of July 1.
