10 Common Condom Mistakes That Could Leave You Pregnant or with STDs

According to Dr. Paul Turek of The Turek Clinic in California, who spoke to Daily Mail Online, there are several common mistakes men make when using condoms that can put them at risk for unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Published on July 15, 2019, Dr. Turek revealed the 10 most common errors made when putting on and wearing condoms, which can have serious consequences.

Here are the 10 common condom mistakes that could leave you pregnant or with STDs:

  • Putting it on inside out: This can be difficult to do, but it's not the end of the world if you're using a condom without spermicide. However, using an inside out condom with spermicide on the wrong side could decrease the effects of the spermicide.
  • Double-bagging: Wearing two condoms is not as effective as wearing one, as it can be a tight fit and constrict the penis, leading to delayed ejaculation and friction that could lead to a rip in one or both of the condoms.
  • Putting it on too late: Waiting until foreplay is done before putting on a condom can be a fine tactic, but it's not a good idea if your foreplay involves any penetration, as it can lead to a STD or pregnancy.
  • Putting it on too soon: A man shouldn't attempt to put on a condom when his penis is not yet erect, as it may not sit properly on the penis and may even prohibit a man from getting to a place where he could even have sex.
  • Leaving it on too long: If a man leaves the condom on for too long, he risks having his ejaculate harden, which can be irritating to the skin and lead to leftover sperm staying in place and mixing with pre-ejaculate fluid.
  • Rolling a condom out beforehand: Some men roll a condom out the entire way before putting it on their penis, which makes the entire process much more difficult and puts them at risk of breaking the condom.
  • Using expired condoms: A man should never use an expired condom, as its rubber or latex can dry out, leading to cracks and holes in the condom.
  • Going for the wrong size: Men seem to have a hard time properly gauging their size, and if a man is wearing a condom that's too large, it can fall off, roll off, or leak from the bottom, while a condom that's too small can be uncomfortable or potentially break.
  • Reusing a condom: Recycling is important for the environment, but when it comes to sex, a man shouldn't recycle a condom, as it can lead to the spread of STDs.
  • Not checking the expiration date: A man should always check the expiration date of the condom before using it, as expired condoms can be ineffective and increase the risk of STDs and unplanned pregnancy.
