On July 11, 2019, a brazen escape attempt unfolded at the E Tipi Kapas Prison in Mersin, southern Turkey. Murat A, a 19-year-old convicted killer, managed to evade capture by switching places with his twin brother, Huseyin, during a visit.

According to reports, the twins were allowed to meet face-to-face, and they took advantage of this opportunity to swap places. Although they are not identical twins, they were able to deceive the prison guards into allowing Murat to walk out of the detention facility.

It is unclear why Huseyin agreed to take his brother's place in a maximum-security prison, but an investigation is ongoing. Murat was eventually found hiding at their home and brought back to the prison he had escaped from.

Both twins are now behind bars as police try to determine the reasons behind the switch and how they managed to evade detection.
