On July 15, 2019, Little Cab and Pioneer Credit signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch a mobile phone deal for taxi drivers.
The service, dubbed 'Pata Simu Lipa Mdogo Mdogo,' allows drivers to access top-quality phones through a simple 3-minute application process. The platform offers five different models of phones, ranging from Ksh. 10,000 to Ksh. 20,000.
Drivers can apply for the loan through a short code (454#) and select one of the five available models. Once the process is complete, they will be directed to an outlet to pick up their handset within hours. The drivers will be able to pay for their phone via a daily or weekly charge for a period of three months.
Little Cab Managing Director Alex Mwaura expressed his joy and hope for the project, stating, 'This is indeed a wonderful day for Little Cab drivers as they will have access to better mobile phones that will enable them to improve on their service delivery.'
Pioneer Credit Executive Chairman Evans Nyagah added, 'We are very confident that this product will benefit the taxi drivers. We aim to grow this product and expand to various regions within the county and potentially to different taxi companies that operate in Kenya.'
Kenya Orient has put in place protective measures to ensure that the handsets are insured from theft or damage, ensuring business continuity for the drivers.
