On July 14, 2019, the health ministry in the Democratic Republic of Congo confirmed the first case of Ebola in Goma, the largest city to be affected by the disease since its outbreak in eastern DR Congo last August.
A man who had arrived in Goma early Sunday by bus with 18 other passengers and the driver from Butembo, one of the main towns touched by Ebola in North Kivu province, was tested and found to be positive for Ebola.
The man had begun his trip on Friday after the first symptoms appeared on July 9, and the passengers and the bus driver will begin getting vaccinations on Monday, according to the health ministry.
The Ebola outbreak in eastern DR Congo has so far killed 1,655 people and 694 have been cured, with 160,239 people vaccinated, as of July 13, 2019.
