First Lady Margaret Kenyatta's Beyond Zero Marathon initiative aims to improve maternal healthcare in Kenya, but its transparency and responsiveness to the needs of ordinary Kenyans have been questioned.

One of the concerns raised is the effectiveness of the mobile clinics set up as part of the initiative, with some lying unused and offering no benefits to the target audience.

Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), a struggling state firm, has donated Kshs. 12 million to the First Lady's initiative. The corporation is currently insolvent, having posted a loss of Kshs. 4 billion in the financial year ended June 2018.

Donating to the marathon, which already has other generous sponsors, has raised eyebrows about the true intentions of the donation.

Kenya's First Lady has been urged to reconsider her stance and reject the donation, with many calling for the money to be returned to KBC.
