Published on July 15, 2019, a report for the 2018/19 Financial Year revealed that Busia County missed its revenue collection target by Sh155 million.
County Director of Revenue Charles Andima attributed the low revenues to inadequate funding and political interference, among other challenges.
Former Mayor of Busia Municipality Francis Mukamani, however, pointed to corruption as the main contributor to low revenues, urging Governor Sospeter Ojaamong to root out corrupt individuals in the revenue department.
Ward reps, including Chairman of Agriculture Committee Joab Oteba and David Kokonya, also attributed the low revenues to corruption and laziness of staff in the revenue department.
