On July 15, 2019, it was reported that Harambee Stars captain and Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama was poised to collect his British passport over the coming weeks.
Wanyama, a 28-year-old Kenya international, had turned down a move out of England the previous year to ensure he qualified for his passport after residing in the United Kingdom for over six years.
Although his last season was marred by a knee injury, Wanyama finished strongly and played three games in nine days for Kenya in the African Cup of Nations, completing 90 minutes in each.
Kenya's campaign was ultimately thwarted, but Wanyama's performance was notable, particularly in their 3-2 win over Tanzania.
However, with the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon, Wanyama is expected to leave Tottenham this summer.
Reports in the UK suggest that the club is willing to listen to offers for Wanyama, among other stars, as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to build a title-winning side.
Although Wanyama's injury struggles have limited Premier League interest, he could move abroad as the summer transfer window is now open across Europe.
