With the rise of dating apps and social media, it's easier than ever to have multiple options and connections. However, if you're consistently finding yourself drawn to one person, it may be time to consider exclusivity.
According to Chris Hart, every relationship starts off casually, but as things progress, you'll want to define the relationship and start planning a future together. This usually happens after three months or so, when you've started referring to each other as boyfriend and girlfriend, and your couple selfies are getting dozens of likes from both sets of friends.
Published on July 14, 2019, Hart notes that it's time to think about exclusivity if you're losing the urge to respond to invitations from others, and you're swiping left a lot more. You're also looking after yourself better, because you don't want your date to be attracted to anyone else.
Other signs you're ready for a committed relationship include being genuinely excited to see each other, making plans using 'we,' and having two toothbrushes in your bathroom. You're also anxious not to let each other down, and you've resolved to communicate really well.
As your relationship deepens, your conversations will move from surface-level topics like movies and sports to more emotional and personal discussions. You'll start to share your childhoods, families, hopes, and dreams with each other.
Even the first few dates can be nerve-wracking, but if you've made it past that stage and had your first row, it's likely time to ditch the others and delete the apps. If you're feeling happy about the idea of having 'the talk' and discussing where your relationship is going, it's probably time to take the next step.
