On July 14, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto spoke out against the harassment of bodaboda operators by security agencies, calling for respect and protection of their rights.

Speaking at Kiamaiko Meat Market in Nairobi, Ruto criticized those who criminalize the bodaboda sector, saying it should be treated like any other legitimate business.

He emphasized the need to arrest and prosecute criminal elements among bodaboda operators, while ensuring the rights of law-abiding operators are respected and protected.

Earlier that day, Ruto had attended church services at the Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church in Makadara and the Evangelical Victory Church in Kiamaiko, where he called on Kenyans to unite and reject divisive politics.

During his speech, Ruto reaffirmed the government's commitment to implementing the urban renewal program, which aims to improve access to basic infrastructure, including transport, utilities, social services, and housing.

“The urban renewal program is meant to improve access to basic infrastructure, including transport, utilities, social services, housing, and ensure smart, liveable cities. It will also create a favourable climate for business, investment and growth,” he said.
