On Saturday, July 13, 2019, a 43-year-old man in Meru County narrowly escaped death after being attacked by three elephants in Ndunyuruma village.

Jotham Baariu, a father of two, was watering onions in his farm when the elephants emerged from a nearby thicket.

According to Jotham, the elephants produced a loud rumble prompting him and his friend to flee in different directions, but the jumbos kept following him.

One of the elephants grabbed him from behind before trampling on him, leaving him with serious leg and chest injuries.

Confirming the incident, Kithima Sub-location assistant chief Paul Muriira said the elephants have been troubling residents of Kithima for several years.
